Character (CE) Vs Player (EE) Leveling

Souls-Between features two leveling systems, a player leveling system called Ethereal Experience, and a character leveling system called Celestial Experience. The easiest way to remember the difference is that the C in CE could also be "Character" experience. Leveling up in these two systems give you different benefits! Players gain bonuses and buffs that are account bound and effect all of their characters in certain activities, while characters themselves get individual bonuses based on their level.

Character XP is determined based on the submission itself and the bonuses granted to that submission. You can view all bonuses and more in the celestial experience calculator. Player XP is determined by the activities themselves - with some bonuses designed to bump your total XP.  Like celestial experience, Ethereal Experience has a calculator too.

For submissions that do not fall under an activity prompt, such as sketch pages, ect, there is a prompt to submit them for just Celestial Experience. This prompt also doubles up for if you have an old tracker from when we operated on DeviantArt! For old trackers, please only do one character tracker per prompt submission.

Frequently Asked questions:

How do I track my character/account XP? Do I need a tracker?

  • You do not need any form of character tracker! All of your character and player XP is tracked on site when you submit a prompt or claim.

Where do I view my level and experience?

How do I view my character's level and XP?

  • Go to your character's page and then select the "Celestial Experience" option on the right hand menu. This is indvidual per character!

How do I level up myself or my characters?

  • When you or your characters are ready for a level, a "level up" button will appear in the corresponding page. Clicking this button will level you, or your character, up and distribute level rewards.

What gives Player Points (EE)?

Player points (EE) is earned via completing prompts and activities. Unlike characters, where you get XP from completing any kind of art of your character.

Events

Events count as any annual events, such as ROT, Magic Mayhem, and more. It also counts World Events such as Of Skie and Seas, Aether Wars, and more!

Events are considered a great way to level up your characters and account since it gives out a lot of XP to both. The Vortex activity however falls under All Activities and not under events. The Vortex allows you to replay old events in a different style while still getting some good loot.

Events are usually announced via the discord and site, and will have banners and countdown timers on the dashboard and side bars of the site.

All Activities

All activities encompasses well, all of our prompt activities! Submitting to these activities not only generates character XP but player XP as well based on what kind of prompt it is.

Remember! Free Rolls do not grant XP to either player or character!

Activities include a wide range of things, but generally do not include:

  • Free Games such as Dungeons and Scouting
  • Events both Annual and world (since they are under their own Category)
  • Trials and Healing Shrine (also under their own category!)
TRIALs AND HEALING SHRINE

Trials include things such as your Trials of Morality, Status, and Orouboros. These are character unlocks that grant your character access to nesting, occupations, magic, and more based on your choices.

Trials can often only be completed once per character, but should you change your mind on your choices, you can reverse them with a Magic Reversal Charm.  This item does not reverse everything on your character, only the things you wish to change!

The Healing Shrine is where you can go to heal your characters should you not have food dishes to heal them with. This grants both player and character XP and aside from oweing either art or literature, is a free prompt you can do whenever you wish!

Ethereal Experience Bonuses

There are a variety of bonuses you can claim when submitting your prompts and their points for your own level.

  • Simple and Complex Shading is awarded for those who add in the extra effort to shade their art pieces.
  • Simple and Complex Backgrounds is awarded for those who add in extra details to their backgrounds. This is also a Literature bonus!
  • Companion bonus is added if you include a companion! companions can range from humanoids, to other ARPG creatures, and even your own personal characters.
  • Extra character Bonus stacks up to 4 times if an extra Souls-Between  character is included. This includes NPCs!
  • Extra Word Count applies to Literature and stacks up to 5 times. It counts every 150 extra words in a literature piece.
