Naovis used to be none other but the ruthless Faceless Queen, the self-proclaimed mastermind of the criminal Aether-aligned organization. In her lifetime, she had ruled with an iron fist, nothing but a terror to her enemies and allies alike. After an unfortunate incident, she was nearly killed and was left to die on a lonely island with no memory of her past life. By pure chance, a half-baked runaway mage Avery was stranded on the island. The two bonded while the mage helped the sapiere heal and eventually developed a bond.

While Naovis still chases after the echoes of her history, Avery is hell-bent on escaping the destiny charted by his past. After several close calls, they decided to hide their identities (particularly Avery's) and join the arena, still doing various jobs on the sidelines. Eventually, Avery had to accept a risky offer to become the apprentice to archmage Aaron.
